Tropical Western Pacific (TWP) Satellite Imagery Diagnostic

This is a form to browse through the Hovmuller diagrams created over current and proposed ARM ARCS sites in the TWP. A Hovmuller diagram is longitude or latitude strip in the X axis with time in the Y-Axis. In our diagnostics we have stacked a longitudinal strip from each hourly GMS satellite image. Click here for more details on interpreting the Hovmuller diagrams and details of the satellite imagery.
To select a Hovmuller diagnostic select location, cross section type (lat/long) and the day. Then click on the DISPLAY button below and the appropriate Hovmuller diagram will be shown.

Hourly GMS-5 full disk images are received on a regular basis from Seaspace Inc. The section of the image for the TWP is then extracted and saved in HDF format (example below) and can be obtained from the archive. To provide an overview of the hourly conditions at each current and planned ARM site Hovmuller plots (longitude or latitude vs time plots ) are created. Clicking on the white spaces of the image will show the pixels positions extracted
